Highlights from 2026 March: VTC Library E-resources Workshops (ProQuest Central and RefWorks)

Thank you to everyone who joined the VTC Library E-resources Workshops (ProQuest Central and RefWorks) on 11 March 2026.

We were delighted to have Gary from ProQuest as our instructor, who guided participants in using of ProQuest Central and RefWorks. We also appreciated the support of our Assistant Librarian, Michael Ho, in facilitating and organizing the session.

During the workshops, students learned:

ProQuest Central

1. One-stop access to high-quality resources across all disciplines

Covering more than 160 subjects and 47 databases, ProQuest Central provides comprehensive access to journals, news, reports, theses, dissertations, and more.

2. AI Research Assistant

It automatically provides summaries, key concepts, research topics, and visual analytics to support research more effectively.

3. Precise search techniques

Students were introduced to search methods such as AND/OR/NOT, NEAR, PRE, and quick filters to improve search accuracy and results.

RefWorks

1. Quick account setup

Set up RefWorks in minutes with VTC email and start saving sources right away.

2. Easy citation import

Citations can be directly exported, or PDFs can be dragged and dropped into RefWorks, with metadata captured automatically.

3. Citation and bibliography tools

Cite sources in Word or Google Docs and automatically generate bibliographies in preferred citation style.

Over the course of two one-hour workshops, students experienced how the ProQuest AI Research Assistant can simplify extensive reading and improve the effectiveness and efficiency of completing assignments. They also learned how to import references directly into RefWorks and instantly generate citations in multiple formats, making academic work faster and easier.
